President Muhammadu Buhari commissions Ikeja Bus Terminal, lauds Governor Ambode’s development initiatives (Photo)

Naija hit play

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday began his two-day official visit to Lagos State with the unveiling of ultra-modern Ikeja Bus Terminal designed to redefine public transportation in line with the Bus Reform Initiative of the State Government.
The President, accompanied to the facility by the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and other government functionaries, lauded the State Government for various initiatives aimed at catering for movement of the growing population of the State and making modern buses available to the people.
He particularly commended Governor Ambode for his developmental strides in the last three years, saying the projects were indeed laudable.
“I commend the Governor for development and strides he recorded within the first three years of governance. I recognize the push of the State Government in reforming public transportation especially the Bus Reform Project which will make modern transport buses that are air-conditioned available to the people.
“I acknowledge the vision of Lagos State Government to revamping the railway transportation system. Presently, we have outlined in new-year message of the plan for a-Pan African Railway Transportation. I commend Lagos State for also developing rail infrastructure to cater for movement of its growing population,” President Buhari said.
While assuring that the Federal Government’s plan for transport infrastructure especially the ports would be strictly adhered to, the President said his administration remained committed to order the development of the country, and as well further stabilize the economy, create an enabling environment for job creation, tackle security and draw Nigeria to acceptability.

Earlier, Governor Ambode said the Ikeja Bus Terminal signposts the commitment of his administration to reform public transportation infrastructure and management in the State, adding that the vision remained the provision of a functional, efficient and integrated transport system to support the populace and facilitate commerce.
He said: “In the last three years, we have committed to revamping and providing a new integrated transport system to support our growing population. We have initiated and completed the provision of infrastructure that are scalable and would support the daily needs of our people to meet their connectivity and mobility needs.
“The Ikeja Bus Terminal is one of our flagship transport infrastructure under the State Bus Reform Initiative. The first phase of this programme will see 13 new Bus terminals introduced including major terminals at Oshodi, Yaba, Ojota, Agege and the already completed Tafawa Balewa Bus Terminal.
“We have commenced the introduction of 5,000 new buses into the Lagos economy in the next 3 years. We will inject 820 environmentally-friendly high capacity buses in the first phase of this reform by September 2018, 300 New Bus Stops, 3 Bus Depots, and Intelligent Transport System which will aid Lagosians to plan their journeys on our public transport system.”
Governor Ambode specifically thanked President Buhari for approving import-duty waiver received on the buses in the Phase One of the scheme, saying that arrangement was now in place for the buses to be assembled in Lagos within the next 20 months, which would in turn create jobs for the people.
He said aside bus and road transportation reform, the State Government was also promoting Non-Motorised Transport such as walking and cycling paths to give the people modal choices while promoting healthy living, just as he said that the rail transport infrastructure was being put in place.
“Work is ongoing on the 27-kilometre Blue Line Rail project from Okokomaiko West of Lagos to Marina in Central Lagos. We are in discussions with various investors and stakeholders on our urban rail project, the Red Line from Alagbada to Marina.
“Mr. President, the success of a highly populated, cosmopolitan smart city-State like Lagos is strongly dependent on the efficiency of its transportation system. We are committed to a functional, efficient and integrated transport system which will support our population and facilitate our commerce and we will continually work till we achieve this objective, Governor Ambode said.
The Ikeja Bus Terminal, which is estimated to convey about 200,000 passengers daily across 23 destinations, has been fitted with all aspects of public transport operations such as buses, passengers’ insurance, 13 ticketing boots, route licensing, terminal bus attendants and operating companies.
Apart from eliminating all the previous chaos and difficulties associated with boarding bus to different locations, the facility which is sitting on 10,000 square metres land space, is equipped with Intelligent Transport System (ITS), food court, shops, rest rooms, ATM Gallery, free Wi-Fi, electronically controlled shades, fully air-conditioned terminal, among others.
The ITS enables would-be passengers to know the arrival and departure time of buses from the comfort of their homes, offices or anywhere and properly plan their journey.
Statistics show that over 12million Lagosians and 80million Nigerians use public transportation daily without standard facilities and the Ikeja terminal is one of the 13 designed to change the narrative in Lagos by exposing the people to befitting and comfortable environment to commute across the State.

Oshiomole Set to replace Odigie-Oyegun as APC Chairman

Naija hit play

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State, has been touted as the leading candidate to replace Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
This comes after the APC said President Muhammadu Buhari’s view cannot change the decision of the National Executive Committee of the party on the tenure extension for Oyegun and other party officials.
Oshiomole’s case has received a massive boost after the Edo State chapter of the party praised the President’s decision as a step in the right direction.
Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the party, Mr Anselm Ojezua, said of Buhari’s decision:
“It was a statement that was timely and justified. By that statement alone, the President has enhanced the profile of our party and saved us the disgrace that was imminent in implementation of that unconstitutional proposal.”
READ ALSOFederal Government Still owes pensioners 14 months arrears Since 2017, soon to pay 2 months debts to retirees - Pension commission reports - Click to read more
According to Vanguard, Oshiomhole’s frontline position followed his reconciliation with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the party whose strident opposition to the tenure extension scheme for the Odigie-Oyegun-led executive derailed it.
Furthermore, Oshiomhole’s candidacy is helped by the fact that Odigie-Oyegun is unlikely to contest the position on account of age.
It is understood that the national chairman who is 79, had seen the prospects of a one-year extension as a fitting anchor for him to leave public service at 80 next year.
“He has not told me, but I doubt it very seriously,” a close associate of Odigie-Oyegun said yesterday.
While the coast seems clear for Oshiomhole, one major challenge could be the muttering by party members on how Buhari shocked members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party by backtracking from the NEC resolution last February on the extension.
Also, many governors who are known to be supportive of Buhari are backing Odigie-Oyegun for the extra year.
Meanwhile, the APC maintains that President Buhari’s decision cannot change the collective decision of the NEC, as the party challenges the suit filed against the tenure extension of the party executives at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Federal Government Still owes pensioners 14 months arrears Since 2017, soon to pay 2 months debts to retirees - Pension commission reports

Naija hit play

The federal government has resolved to pay retirees who were disengaged between January 2017 and February 2018 under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS)
- Peter Aghahowa, the head of corporate communication, Pension Commission (PenCom) said that the payment have been concluded, but that the body is still waiting for the release of the fund from the Ministry of Finance
- Aghahowa said that the commission would pay the retirees as soon as the federal government releases the money
The presidency has said that it is making plans to pay pensioners who retired in January and February 2017 under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
Leadership reported that federal government retirees, especially those who retired from January 2017 till February 2018, are yet to get any pension entitlement, as the federal government now owes 14 months unpaid pension.
Yet, reports showed that the payment for the two months has been concluded, but the National Pension Commission (PenCom) is awaiting the release of the fund from the Federal Ministry of Finance before it commences the payment of the concerned retirees.
This therefore means that the government still owes 12 months’ pension arrears to pensioners under the CPS. Meanwhile, those who retired from March 2017 till presently would have to wait longer to receive their pension arrears.

Peter Aghahowa, the head of corporate communication, PenCom, confirmed the development. Aghahowa affirmed that some 2017 retirees had not been paid, stating that the federal government has, however, released money for pension payment to retirees up to February 2017. He noted that they are yet to release money for retirees who retired from March 2017 till date.
Aghahowa said that the commission would pay the retirees as soon as the federal government releases the fund.
According to reports gather, Hassana Shekarau, the chairman, House committee on pension, said that the federal government has released N54 billion to National Pension Commission (PenCom)offset 33 per cent pension arrears to pensioners.
Shekarau revealed this at the inauguration of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners House in Abuja, recently. He remarked that presidecy had set up a presidential committee to reconcile the pension figures and that the job had been concluded.
He further said that the president also sent a bill seeking a loan to the National Assembly, which had been approved, part of which was to pay pensioners’ arrears.
Shekarau stated: “We don’t know what is delaying it that is why I took it upon myself to make sure that I charge the chief executives, who are handing pension matters that within two weeks they should report back to me on it.
“Any of them that delay I assure pensioners that we will still move another motion to ensure it payment. I have engaged stakeholders to make sure that the needful is done. I am happy to tell you that some progress have been made on the challenges of the 33 per cent arrears.
“I have given the relevant stakeholders on pension two weeks to sit and resolve matters on
the pending issues of the payment of 33 percent pension arrears since the money had been disbursed.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had in his presentation of the 2018 appropriation bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on Nov. 7, 2017, called for speedy passage of the budget to allow for implementation of the January to December budget cycle.
Both legislative chambers had blamed the delay in the approval of the bill to refusal of heads of ministries, departments and agencies to come forward and defend their respective budget proposals.
The Nigerian Senate had blamed ministries, departments and agencies for the slow passage of the 2018 budget.
The lawmakers said the delay of the passage of the 2018 budget was due to ‘lackadaisical attitude’ of some heads of MDAs toward the ongoing budget defence.
They also the MDAs were not responding to the defence proposal and the Senate did not have much time on its hands.

Reports said the 62-year-old was rushed to the hospital late on March 25 with pain in his chest and died several hours later.
Mavrodi’s MMM financial pyramid was a typical Ponzi scheme in which earlier investors receive their profits from subsequent investors. Mavrodi promised returns of 20 percent to 75 percent a month, as well as lotteries and bonuses for investors.

As soon as the number of new clients stopped growing, the pyramid collapsed, causing huge financial losses for at least 10 million people, in some cases leaving them destitute.
In 1994, Mavrodi was elected as a lawmaker, a decision he later said was to ensure he received immunity from prosecution. In 1996, he lost his parliamentary mandate.
In 2007, a Moscow court found him guilty of financial fraud and sentenced him to 4 1/2 years in a penal colony.
In 2011, Mavrodi launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, calling on investors to purchase so-called Mavro currency units in a bid to get rid of the “unfair” financial system. Some 15 months later, Mavrodi halted the project.
From 2011-16, Mavrodi launched Ponzi schemes under the MMM brand in India, China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.
In many of those countries, Mavrodi’s operations were subsequently shut down or suspended.

Small girls getting Pregnant in Calabar: I am 11 years old but pregnant – 11year old Esther reveal (Photos)

Naija hit play
Girls between the ages of ten and thirteen carrying bulging stomachs are a familiar sight in Calabar, Cross River State capital, and other parts of the state.
The girls often look like a joke or are acting a play in a nursery class but are actually pregnant and a sign of what many believe is a high rate of promiscuity in the state.
The pregnant girls are a common sight in the Calabar South area, which is densely populated.
The high poverty rate, according to analysts, makes parents to encourage their children to look for income to meet family needs.
From Left: Teenager as nursing mother, Esther, pregnant teenagers
Such parents send their children to hawk petty items like sachet water, bean cake, groundnut, in the process of which unscrupulous men entice them with gifts, have sex with them and get them pregnant.
Many of the girls operating in the red light area of Calabar, located in Atekong Drive, are from that part of the city and it is common to find primary kids roaming the area at night to hawk their bodies for sex and men, not minding their ages, take them into hotel rooms for a one- night-stand and hand them peanuts.
One of the girls, Esther, 11, carrying a seven months old pregnancy, told Sunday Vanguard that what forced her into sex before she became pregnant was to source for what the family would eat.
“I am from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State and live with my mother and five other siblings in one room at Akparika Street in Calabar South. I do not go to school because there is no money. Most times, we do not have food to eat or money to buy water; that is why I go out to meet men to get money and some of them do not like to use condom. That is why I became pregnant”.
The high rate of teenage pregnancy in Cross River has become a source of grave concern to social workers who say it is a time-bomb which may soon create problems in the society that may be hard to contain.

Mr Vincent Ogbor, a social worker in Calabar, said affected parents oftentimes do not reveal the men who put their daughters in the family way for the fear that the men will stop supporting them and so there is nobody to hold and prosecute.
“We have many of these cases both in the villages and in the urban centres across the state and what is driving the scourge is poverty and ignorance. Many people have children they cannot fend for; so they send the girls out to look for what the family will eat or, worse still, they pay no attention when the girl starts bringing little gifts from one ‘uncle’ or the other and, before long, she becomes pregnant”, Ogbor said.
According to him, some of the small girls, when they give birth, abandon the children on the streets or kill them and dump in refuse bins since they lack the resources to cater for them.
“We have reports of these girls, after giving birth, abandoning the children or killing them. If refuse disposal people tell you the number of dead kids they find in refuse bins every week, you will weep. My fear is that these abandoned children may end up becoming armed robbers, kidnappers and militants who make life miserable in the society tomorrow”
The social worker pointed out that government is playing the ostrich by not prosecuting parents who indulge in the act of allowing their children to go out and get pregnant for aiding and abetting, and the men who get the girls pregnant.
“These are girls made to give birth to babies and some of them die in the process because they are too young or contract deadly diseases”, he added.
Mr Oliver Orok, the state Commissioner for Social Welfare, told Sunday Vanguard that there is a law in Cross River which forbids the abuse, defilement or impregnating of underage girls.
“There is a law in the state which specifies years of imprisonment for anyone who abuses, defiles a minor or engages in child labour. We are yet to receive reports on any of such cases and we won’t take kindly to it.”

It’s better not to have any government than for PDP to return - Former PDP Chieftain Senator Rowland Owie

Naija hit play
A former PDP chieftain, Senator Rowland Owie, has declared that Nigerians would not allow PDP to come back to power in 2019
- He said the problems currently plaguing Nigeria were created by the PDP
- Owie also noted that it would be better not to have any government in Nigeria than for PDP to return to power in 2019
Former chief whip of the Senate, Rowland Owie, chairman, national contact committee of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), has said Nigerians would not make mistake to return Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power in 2019.
In an interview with Vanguard, Owie, who was also a member of House of Representatives between 1979 and 1983, said that it better for Nigeria to have no government than to allow the PDP to stage a come back in 2019.
9jahitplay.com gathered that he said that the problem plaguing Nigeria today was caused by the former ruling party.
"The problem we have today was caused by the PDP. It is a pity I was in that party. We were the founding members of the PDP. The leadership of that party brought impunity into the party. By the time the PDP took over power, Nigeria Airways was alive, Aladja was working, Ajaokuta was working, Basita sugar company was working, NITEL was working.
"As a matter of fact, when we were in the Senate, NITEL had over N2.4billion in its account, they were not borrowing to pay salaries. But the PDP government came and sold these businesses and as at today not one single staff of these former companies had got his or her pensions and gratuities.
READ ALSOPolice arrest 36-Year-Old Man For Allegedly Burying His Lover Secretly In Ogun State (Photo) - Click to read more
"The party went ahead and destroyed all the toll gates from where huge revenue could have been derived to fix all federal roads without going to ask for tax payers money. Do you know that one year’s allocation during Obasanjo’s tenure was just about 10 per cent higher than the allocation IBB got in eight years.
"And yet IBB’s performance for that period surpassed Obasanjo’s performance in eight years. So when you say the PDP is regrouping, it is laughable because they can never regroup. This is a party where governors decide what happens while the ideals of the party built by the founding fathers of the party had been destroyed.
"Few weeks ago, former chairman of the PDP, Col.Ahmadu Ali, during the launching of his book declared that he was a major proponent of third term. Ordinarily he should have been stoned for saying that.
"I was even more disappointed when Prof. Jubrin Aminu, former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, said that he respected Col. Ahmadu Ali, a man who supported third term for Obasanjo. It is a shame.
"It is better not to have any government in place in Nigeria than for PDP to return. I was just reading in the papers how PDP shared N150billion two weeks to the 2015 general election. Let me tell you, after Shehu Shagari, then Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, and bit of President Jonathan before he was hijacked by palace jesters, there was no other civilian president in this country.
"The eight years of Obasanjo were a waste and PDP should take responsibility for it because they fielded him. So PDP cannot come back again, they are making noise as usual.
"For the SDP, my happiness about the arrival of SDP is that it is depleting PDP and very soon the PDP will be erased and the SDP will be nowhere. Those who are going to the SDP are analogue politicians, they don’t know the mechanics of a political party.
"In the first Republic, it was Action Group, NCNC, UNPC, NEPU, when the coup took place and entered second Republic, those four parties died and never came up because they were already in the mortuary.
"So the old Action Group came out as UPN, the old NCNC came out as NPP. The old NEPU came out as PRP and the old UNPC came out as GNPP and that was the end. So NRC, SDP came in the third aborted Republic. Are you still hearing of NRC, no.
"So SDP cannot fly. If you are looking for the sins of SDP and its leadership, it is the spirit of late Gen.Yar’Adua who they betrayed that will continue to haunt them. SDP can never be a threat to ADP. With ADP, by the grace of God, in government in 2019, the past shall be corrected and the future shall be secured.

A man has found himself in serious trouble after he was arrested following the death of his lover at a hotel.
Policemen in Ogun State have arrested a 36-year-old, Musiliu Owolabi, for allegedly burying his lover, Fausat Idowu.
A report by Nigerian Tribune revealed that the incident happened after the suspect had taken the deceased, a mother of five, to a hotel for pleasure when she suddenly fell ill and eventually died.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, said the suspect, a mechanic secretly buried her lover in an uncompleted building at Osara village, off Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway.
Iliyasu said the suspect was arrested following a report to the Police by the younger brother of the deceased, Hammed Idowu, that his sister who went for a naming ceremony at Bode Olude area of Abeokuta, was nowhere to be found.
The CP said that following the report, detectives at the Homicide Section were directed to investigate the matter.

Iliyasu said “On interrogation, the suspect admitted taking the deceased to Rocky Gold Hotel at Iyana-Apakila, Abeokuta, for pleasure, where he claimed she fell ill and later took her in his vehicle, but died under a mysterious circumstance in the car.
“He further confessed that he took the corpse to a nearby bush, dug a shallow grave and buried it without disclosing same to anybody.
“This made the circumstances of her death mysterious as well as questionable, which is condemnable. The suspect will soon be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.” He said.
The suspect confessed to the crime while speaking with newsmen, saying that the deceased had been her lover for six months.
He narrated that both of them were about to “enjoy” themselves when she developed temperature and that he had to take her to a nearby hospital before the unfortunate happened.
Owolabi explained that it was the first time both of them would make move to have s3x together.
He said, “We were just removing our clothes when she suddenly developed a severe temperature and later slumped. It was while I was taking her to the hospital in my vehicle that I discovered she has died.
“I did not inform the Police or anyone about the incident. I became apprehensive and decided to hide the corpse and later buried her in the midnight.”

Abrham Tamrat, the programme manager of International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Lagos, handed the returnees over to Alhaji Yakubu Suleiman, the southwest zonal coordinator of NEMA.
Suleiman thanked the IOM and the European Union (EU) for facilitating the repatriation of the Nigerians who had been stranded en route from Libya to Europe.
Yakubu admonished the returnees to shun the urge of seeking greener pastures outside the country.
He said that all nations in the world were facing various challenges as a result of global economic meltdown.
The coordinator said the Nigerian economy had exited recession due to the ingenuity of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, adding that they should join hand in building the country.
“Nigeria has more than enough resources to cater for our needs but it is left for every one of us to tap from any of these abundant resources,” Suleiman said.
He assured them that both the federal and state governments had lots of incentives for their rehabilitation and reintegration to complement the efforts of EU and IOM.
He also said the IOM had assisted over 7,000 Nigerians back from Libya under the voluntary return assistance programme and would continue to assist persons who indicate interest to return.
It was gathered that the returnees were also received by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria police.

“Let the will of God be done” – Mother of the only Christian Dapchi girl held back by Boko Haram

Parents of the only Dapchi schoolgirl still being held by Boko Haram are hopeful that she will return home.
Leah Sharibu, a SS 1 pupil, sent a message to her mother that the family should pray “for the will of God to be done”. The Nation reports.
President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday that the government would not abandon her.
Leah, the only Christian among the 110 girls kidnapped on February 19, was not released along with 104 others on Wednesday.
Five of the girls died on the day they were abducted.

Leah’s mother, Mrs Rebecca Sharibu, fainted when she was told on Wednesday that her daughter was not released.
According to Premium Times, Mrs Sharibu told their reporter yesterday that her daughter sent a message that the family should pray for God’s will to be done.
Mrs Sharibu has not lost hope that her daughter would return. She vowed to continue to pray for her to be released.
She said:
” The released girls told us that the insurgents insisted that my daughter must renounce her religion.
But she told them she had no single knowledge of Islam and could not be a Muslim.
She was then left out of the Dapchi trip. They told her that any day she accepts Islam, she will be released.
” Leah, we were told was left behind with three Boko Haram women but she sent the message through her mates that we should pray for the will of God to be done in her life” .
She urged the Federal Government to negotiate for her daughter’s freedom, saying:
” So I plead that the government and the negotiation team should revisit the terms of the agreement to ensure the release of my daughter.
“Everybody has his religion and no one should be compelled to practice a religion he or she never wishes to”.
Leah’s father Nathan Sharibu thanked the Dapchi community for standing by him and his family.
How Leah was stopped from returning
Mrs. Sharibu said some of the released girls told her how Leah was stopped by Boko Haram at the last minute.
“ What her school mates that returned told me was that my daughter (was told she) must recite the Kalima Shahada (the Islamic profession of faith in one God), and she does not know how to recite it,” she said.
“ So they told her that if she didn’t know how to recite it then she should come down from the vehicle.
“She had already boarded the vehicle alongside others that were ready to come home.
“So she was asked to go down and join some three other females that they said they met there at where they were kept.
“ They said my daughter would only be brought back home the day she knows how to recite Kalima shahada.
“She insisted that she does not know how to recite and that she was not brought up as a Muslim.
“That was why she was held back. She was asked to go and stay with those three women who were also captives there.
“ She then pleaded with her friends that if they eventually made it home successfully, they should inform we, her parents, to continue to help her pray for God to protect her and bring her home safely as well.
That whether she survived or not, she still need prayers.
“ My concern and question to the government is that since we were told that the negotiation was done for all the schoolgirls, why did government accept that only my daughter be left behind when others’ were freed and even brought home?
“So I am begging the federal government of Nigeria, if the negotiation was because they love all the girls as their own, they should do everything to help release my own girl.
“ To the Boko Haram members, I have nothing to say other than they should have pity on my only daughter and release her.
It was not her fault that she is a Christian, I know that in this world, everyone chose the path of faith he or she has chosen in worshipping God.
There is no way one could be forced to do what he or she does not know. It is not possible.”

Full Report On How Jonathan’s billionaire supporter hired Cambridge Analytica to hack Buhari’s medical, financial records ahead of 2015 elections

Naija hit play
A report has revealed how a billionaire supporter of Goodluck Jonathan helped him in the 2015 presidential election
- The report claimed that the oil billionaire hired Cambridge Analytica to hack into President Buhari’s personal data to find relevant information to blackmail him
- The firm, Cambridge Analytica, however, denied hacking into Buhari’s personal data but admitted it was hired to campaign for Jonathan in the 2015 election
An oil billionaire supporter of former President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly hired SCL, a data analytics company, to paint President Muhammadu Buhari bad in the buildup to the 2015 elections.
A new report by Guardian UK reveals that fixers hired by the billionaire in support of the Jonathan campaign hacked into Buhari’s personal data.
9jahitplay.com gathered that SCL is the parent company of Cambridge Analytica, a data marketing firm, which harvests data from different sources and creates micro-targets, with the ultimate goal of changing audience behaviour.
Cambridge Analytica is reputed as one of the factors responsible for the outcome of the US presidential election and the Brexit vote of 2016.
READ ASLODapchi parents reveal what Boko Haram terrorists told them after releasing their children - Click to read more
It was recently accused of improperly using data on behalf of political clients.
Reports say the company may have used data improperly obtained from roughly 50 million Facebook users to try to sway elections in different parts of the world.
A Nigerian oil billionaire whose identity was not revealed reportedly committed a large amount of money in order stop Buhari from winning the 2015 presidential election.
The reports also claimed that the fixers for the Jonathan campaign hacked into Buhari’s medical and financial records, in a desperate attempt to scare the electorates and changed their decisions to vote for President Buhari.
The Guardian quoted an ex-employee of SCL to have said: “It was the kind of campaign that was our bread and butter. We were employed by a billionaire who’s panicking at the idea of a change of government and who wants to spend big to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
According to the report, SCL had established a reputation of weaponising information to harm an opponent.
“It was a methodology honed and developed in the company’s defence and military work – the fifth dimension of warfare, defined by the US military as ‘information operations’.
“What was new, or at least new to those employees who have now spoken out, was bringing these techniques to the company’s election work,"
the report read.
Seven individuals with close knowledge of the Nigeria campaign reportedly described how Cambridge Analytica worked with people they believed were Israeli computer hackers.
The sources, who allegedly spoke to the Observer over many months, said the company was looking for “kompromat” on Muhammadu Buhari who was the presidential candidate of the then opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
They said the hackers offered Cambridge Analytica access to private information about Buhari.
This latest testimony reveals how far a western company could go in an effort to undermine the democratic process in Africa’s most populous nation; Nigeria.
However, Cambridge Analytica has insisted it did not take possession of or use any personal information for any purpose and did not use any “hacked or stolen data”.
The company confirmed, nevertheless, that it had been hired to provide advertising and marketing services in support of the campaign of Jonathan.
The campaign contract reportedly came about through Brittany Kaiser, a senior director at Cambridge Analytica, and a senior strategist on the campaign team of President Donald Trump.
Regarded by colleagues as a prolific networker, in December 2014 she was introduced to an oil billionaire who wanted to fund a covert campaign to support Jonathan.
A former employee reportedly said: “[Kaiser] got a phone call. It was just before Christmas and she flew out to meet them in Washington DC. It was all a bit ridiculous. It was only six to eight weeks before the election and they were looking to spend nearly $2m.
“There were a lot of scared millionaires worried that Buhari would get in. It was all very last-minute. A team flew out to Abuja and put together a communications campaign. It was a straightforward, normal comms campaign in most respects.”
Meanwhile, the Observer, Guardian UK's sister newspaper, reportedly obtained an astonishing and disturbing video that Cambridge Analytica used in the campaign.
The description of, and extracts from, the content of the campaign video as obtained by the Observer
“Coming to Nigeria on February 15th, 2015,” the voiceover says in the manner of a trailer for a Hollywood movie.
“Dark. Scary. And very uncertain. Sharia for all.” And then it poses the question: “What would Nigeria look like if Sharia were imposed by Buhari?”
Its answer to that question is certainly dark. And scary. It’s also graphically, brutally, violent. One minute and 19 seconds of archive news footage from Nigeria’s troubled past set to a horror movie soundtrack.
There are scenes of people being macheted to death. Their legs hacked off. Their skulls caved in. A former contractor said: “It was voter suppression of the most crude and basic kind. It was targeted at Buhari voters in regions to basically scare the sh*it out of them and stop them from voting.”
“If Buhari wins, the film warns: women would wear the veil. Sharia law would be introduced. And the inference is, you may be macheted to death.
“It wasn’t just videos spreading fear. The Cambridge Analytica campaign team in Nigeria were jumpy too," a source revealed.
Also, there were some reported meetings held to strategise how to blackmail Buhari before the election: three sources reportedly told the Guardian about one that took place between Cambridge Analytica employees and two people they were told were Israeli intelligence operatives.
“There was a two-hour meeting that took place in the hotel lobby between two senior campaign members and Israeli intelligence. After which they swept our hotel rooms for listening devices and said they would switch out our phones. The story we were told was that there were intelligence agents from a number of different countries, including Israel and France, who were supporting Goodluck Jonathan and helping the campaigns,” a source was quoted to have said.
PAY ATTENTIONDo you want to Get new Customers in Your business or Promote Your Good Music, Video, Mixtape - Click to place your advert and promote your Good music
However, it was stated that there was no suggestion that Jonathan was aware of or implicated in this support. Another employee reportedly said: “Basically the Israelis didn’t want [Buhari] to win.”
Other employees questioned whether they were “real” Israeli intelligence operatives or Israeli private contractors.
“A few weeks later, as the campaign was drawing to a close, there was another meeting at Cambridge Analytica’s London office,” the Guardian UK report read.
An expert had reportedly flown in from Israel with a laptop, sources say.
A source revealed: “And Alexander Nix, Cambridge Analytica’s now suspended CEO, and Kaiser, asked employees to take a thumb drive and download the contents on to their own computers.
“The content was private emails and the information, they were told, related to Buhari’s financial and medical records.
“One employee who was present at the London meeting said he had initially assumed the visiting expert was Mossad or Israeli intelligence passing on what he called legitimate information.
“But he began to realise this wasn’t the case, he said, when he saw the reaction of his colleagues. One of them had “freaked out”, he said. “He was like, ‘What the f*uck? I don’t want anything to do with this.”
The source said that the employees are clear, at least in their own minds, that the information they were shown had come from hackers.
Back in Nigeria, the team still on the ground found out what was going on from their colleagues in London. They were reportedly freaked out.
“They were f*ucking scared,” said a colleague who spoke to them while they were in the country. The campaign fixer, the person with local knowledge who navigated them through the ins and outs of Nigerian politics, made it clear to them: they needed to get out of the country right away.
Cambridge Analytica had put them all in danger, they said. If opposition supporters found out, there was no saying what might happen.
One member of the team missed his flight and instead of asking the office to re-book it, he reportedly got the first fight out, to Dubai, and put it on his credit card.
A spokesman for the company, however, said its team remained in the country throughout the original campaigning period but “left in accordance with the company’s campaign plan”.
“Team members were regularly briefed about security concerns prior to and during deployment and measures were taken to ensure the team’s safety throughout,” he said.
This latest report poses multiple wider political questions about what really happened in the Nigerian 2015 elections and the role western powers played.
Are western political campaigners taking lucrative contracts from the local politicians or political supporters contributing to the democratic framework of developing countries or helping to destroy them?
Christopher Wylie, the Cambridge Analytica whistleblower who spoke to the Observer, called it
“post-colonial blowback” .
He said: “The west found a way of firehosing disinformation into weak and vulnerable democracies. And now this has been turned back on us. This really is about our chickens coming home to roost.”

He said: “But we, the parents of the missing girls, did not run as other villagers did, because we cannot run and leave our girls in the hands of the Boko Haram.
“When they came, they told us that they were returning the girls not because somebody gave them money, but out of their freewill. We thanked them. Then they told us that we must never return our girls to western school again; we said we will do as said. They preached to us for some time, and we said we will heed to their sermons.
“They shook our hands and asked us to forgive them for whatever pains that they might have caused us; then we shook hands and they asked us to snap photos with them using their mobile phone which we all did.”
Haruna Driver who is a father of one of the abducted girls said he was happy for his daughter’s return. He said: “When the news came to me, it was like a dream. But when I saw my daughter, I and her mother shed tears of joy.

“Sadly, we could not spend much time with her before she was taken to the hospital and then to Abuja. We thank God for His kindness and mercy on us. We thank the president and all those that worked hard to see that our daughters return to us safely."

Wicked Mother : 4-year-old girl starved, burned alive and beaten to death by her mother and boyfriend (Photos)

Naija hit play
The death of 4-year-old Aniya Day-Garrett has left the world shocked.
This is because of the torture she suffered at the hands of her mother and her boyfriend before she was killed.
Anya was allegedly beaten to death by her mother and her boyfriend on Sunday, March 11.
Prior to that, she was starved and had her feet and legs burned.
As a result of the torture, the child died in Euclid Hospital in Cleveland on Sunday from a stroke.
Medical examiners said the stroke was caused by repeated blows to the head.
Her mother Sierra Day, 23, and Day’s boyfriend Deonte Lewis, 26, were charged with aggravated murder and held on $1 million bonds.
Day and her boyfriend called 911 at about 11.30am on Sunday to report that Aniya was unresponsive and not breathing.
Day claimed Aniya started “acting weird” when they took her to Red Lobster the previous Thursday.
She had fallen off a toilet seat on Sunday.
She said her daughter was unable to keep food or water down and threw up the Tylenol she gave her.

Also, she barely ate any breakfast the morning of her death.
But when police arrived, they saw that Aniya’s skin appeared to be “extremely pale and lifeless,” and her face and neck were “very small and emaciated”.
The toddler also had what appeared to be rug burn marks on her feet and legs and was so malnourished paramedics “could see the individual joints” of her fingers.
Doctors then noticed a big bruise on her left eye which was nearly swollen shut, a cut above her left eyebrow, and scald marks on both legs.
It has been revealed that Harbor Crest Child Care filed an abusing a minor report against Day in May 2017 allegedly documenting 18 months of injuries to Aniya.
Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services also conducted three separate investigations into allegations of neglect last year.
However, it concluded there was not enough evidence to remove the child from her mother’s home.
Aniya’s father Mickhal Garrett had been fighting to gain custody of his daughter and made repeated complaints accusing Day and Lewis of harming and abusing the child.
Day was scheduled to meet with a social worker on Monday, March 19 to discuss Mickhal Garrett’s petition for an emergency custody but Aniya was killed before then.
As Day and boyfriend Lewis faced court on Tuesday, Aniya’s father jumped to his feet and screamed in anguish:
“You killed my f***ing child! You hurt my baby.”
He then collapsed into the arms of family members and sobbed uncontrollably.
Garrett has accused Child Protective Service of failing him and his child.
“We want them to be held accountable,” said Garrett. “CPS failed me. They failed us all. Nobody should have to go through this. So many people tried and tried to make sure Aniya Marie Garrett was safe and they failed our family.”
