Man beats and locks wife out for escorting pastor at night

Naija hit play

A businessman identified as Aggrey Obaje was arraigned for beating his wife over claims that she welcomed a pastor into their house, cooked for him then escorted him out in the night, The Punch reports.
9jahitplay gathered that the 35-year-old was said to have assaulted and injured his wife, Teresa Atieno, on March 30 within Shauri Moyo area of Nairobi, Kenya after the wife could not explain what relationship she had with the pastor.
The prosecution said that the wife, Atieno, had welcomed the preacher for prayers while the husband was away then served him tea and buttered bread like she did with any other visitor.
Her husband arrived at 9pm and found the wife and the pastor having the meal.
“Obaje asked who the visitor was and what he was doing in their house at such an ungodly hour, the pastor replied that he had brought the good news of salvation and would not mind to also pray for the head of the family,” read part of the charge particulars.

The court heard that Atieno read mischief in her husband’s conduct and excused herself to see off the preacher. She took their young daughter just to show that she had nothing fishy in seeing off the pastor.
The charge particulars added: “The accused Obaje asked the wife where she was going and what she was doing with the strange pastor outside the house. She responded that she was escorting the preacher to a nearby church but this did not go down with the husband who mocked her of cooking for the preacher and not for her real husband.”
By the time Atieno returned to the house, Obaje had locked the door from inside, prompting her to continuously knock as she begged him to open the door for the sake of their daughter.
The husband emerged from the house, grabbed his wife and slapped her in the face. Minutes later, neighbours came out and managed to rescue Atieno who was screaming uncontrollably before prevailing on Obaje to allow his wife and young daughter in.
Atieno later reported her husband to the police and subsequently charged him to court. However, he was released on bail after denying the charges. The case was postponed until July 31 for a mention.

Threat to impeach President Buhari: Presidency allegedly targets 15 senators over alleged corruption

Naija hit play

Some members of the National Assembly moved for impeachment of President Buhari
- The legislators made the move over the unapproved payment of $496million for TUCANO fighter jets
- An unconfirmed report, however, stated that the presidency may target 15 senators over alleged corruption following the impeachment move
Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s unapproved payment of $496million to the US government for the purchase of TUCANO fighter jets, some senators rose to seek to institute impeachment proceedings against the president.
Though President Buhari had sent a letter to the NASS, explaining why he paid the money without their approval, the legislators were not convinced.
With what some have described as a convincing reason, President Buhari said the need to quickly utilise the window passed by the American legislature to sell the warplanes to Nigeria – after years of embargo – constituted a compelling reason why the approval was made before the request was placed before the NASS.

Even before the senators took umbrage, the House of Representatives had gone through a similar motion of voicing out its displeasure and pointing out the possible consequence of the president’s action.
However, not all the NASS members are in support of the impeachment move. Whereas there are many who believe and, therefore, insist that Buhari may have breached the laws of the land, their position is that pursuing an impeachment now is not the answer.
The House of Representatives committee chairman on Rules, Hon. Emmanuel Orker-Jev, said heis not an apologist of bad behaviour but resorting to impeachment, which, by its very nature, is cumbersome, would be a distraction as the country approaches next year’s elections.
“Nigerians should be able to decide at the polls whether this is the country they want and whether the President is taking them in the right direction”, Orkar-Jev pointed out.
Senator Shehu Sani is of the view that impeachment is not the answer, even though he believes that the money should be returned.
With the impeachment threat from the Senators, Vanguard reports that some of the senators may be targeted by the presidency over their alleged involvement in corruption, as a way of fighting back.
The report added that the legislators may be angry with President Buhari over the treatment being meted out to some of their colleagues by the executive under whose control are the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the Department of State Services (DSS) ; the police and other such instruments of coercion.
The first case of harassment cited in the Vanguard report is that of Senator Dino Melaye who is accused of supplying guns to a group of hoodlums after he reported a case of attack on him. Another senator that may be targeted, according to the report, is Senator Shehu Sani from Kaduna state. Senator Sani is also allegedly being insinuated into the commission of a criminal offence by the police. Sani has reportedly been invited by the police.
In addition, Senator Isa Misau is reportedly facing criminal charges for allegedly criticizing the inspector general of police.
Also, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, with his son, is believed to be facing charges at the EFCC.
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi is also reportedly being tried in court by the EFCC, and, currently, being remanded in prison.
Other senators who are reportedly suspected of having or are being targets of possible investigations include but are not limited to Senators Danjuma Goje, Aliyu Wamakko, Murtala Nyako and Jonah Jang.
Also, there is the on-going investigation into the assets of the deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremmadu and Senate President Bukola Abubakar Saraki, whose case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) is yet to be concluded.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwakanso, who was prevented from entering Kano state by the authorities, is also said to be a possible target of investigation.
Though the legislators cited breach of constitution as the sole reason for calling for the impeachment of President Buhari, many believed that the alleged harassment of the legislators by the executives might be the reason for the impeachment move.

Confirming the arrest, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said the robust onslaught against criminals and their hideout was ongoing in the state.
“The suspect has been on the wanted list of the command. Acting on intelligence, we have to arrest him. He will be ready to answer for all his atrocities. As a command, we will continue to ensure that Imo people enjoy their sleeps,” the state/CP said.

Nigerian Music artiste Cynthia Morgan charged to court over failure to pay House rent and tax evasion

Naija hit play

Cynthia Morgan has been off the music scene for a while now, which led to the Nollywood actress
Adesua Etomi , inquiring about her whereabouts on Twitter.
Well, it seems the singer took a time off to solve her life problems, as it is said she is facing a major debt hit.
According to Saturday Beats, the music artiste is in a great financial struggle which is disrupting her career.
Saturday Beats exclusively obtained court documents showing that Cynthia Morgan has been charged to the Ikeja High Court for failure to pay her rent at her Omole apartment.
Sadly, it was learnt that on the same day the artiste was served court papers for defaulting on payment of rent, she was also served with court papers for evading tax.

A source close to the owner of the apartment where Cynthia Morgan currently lives told Saturday Beats the amount she owed, which tallies with the information on the court papers obtained by Saturday Beats.
The source added that the singer’s brother has been begging the owner of the apartment for further grace period even though the initial six months grace given to the artiste ended last month.
READ ALSO21year old undergraduate dies from kerosene explosion 2 weeks after her matriculation in Cross-River state (Photo) - Click to read more
The source said: “Ever since she moved into the apartment as a tenant, the owner of the building has described her as a nightmare. She has since been given quit notice. At a point, the owner of the house didn’t even know who was staying in the flat because every day, new faces showed up at the apartment and they would leave the gate open at odd hours. Young scary looking boys with different hair colours come around and they smoke in the compound.
They disturb the nice couple living in the flat upstairs, who have been complaining that they can’t even let their kids play in the compound because of the type of people they see around. She has owed waste bills for over a year. They always play loud music at odd hours of the day. Funnily enough, the couple who live upstairs are also popular; the man is a very popular celebrity designer but I would not want to mention his name. His wife always complains that her home help sweeps cigarettes everywhere all the time.
Cynthia Morgan decided at a point that she was going to be recording in her room. When the noise was too much, the owner of the house had to talk to her about it. She has been given quit notice. The six months grace period is up and she was meant to have moved out last month. She is flat broke. They have been pleading that they don’t have anywhere to move to neither can they come up with the rent. But it’s her brother that has been speaking on her behalf. We haven’t seen or heard from her but he claims she is always locked up in her room.

The court papers have been submitted to Cynthia Morgan’s apartment already and she has been served a court date. She owes N1.3m. According to her elder brother, she is in the house. She was also served court papers for not paying up to N3.584m in tax. It was the agent that sued her on behalf of his client. He is a very popular real estate agent; he is like a celebrity estate agent. He’s the one that gets apartments for most of them,” the source said.
Despite the court papers with Saturday Beats, when a call was placed across to Cynthia Morgan’s phone, her representative who identified himself simply as Maze denied the fact that she owed money. He simply said, “I do not know of anything like that and I would say that it is a lie. I do not know about any court papers, so I would say that it is a lie. To the best of my knowledge, I am not aware that she owes her landlord any money. I believe that if they claim she smokes, entertains strange guests and leaves the gate open at odd hours, they should have proof. In my book, none of this statement is factual. I don’t know about these details and I would say that it is a lie."

Fatima who disclosed that her daughters were sleeping with her in the main bedroom when their father woke them up quite early, said:
“This was an unusual act, but when I asked him why, he said that his father was coming to visit and that his three daughters needed to say hello to their grandfather.”
According to the Saudi Gazette, the woman said her husband took the three daughters to another room, adding that she didn’t suspect anything, but after a while, she became suspicious and decided to go to the room to see what was happening.

Fatima further said:
“I was shocked to see my middle daughter Rimaz in his hands soaked in her blood after he had slaughtered her with a knife. I tried to rescue her, but he pushed me away; I fell down. When I got up, he had already slaughtered our eldest and the youngest daughters.”
The woman said that she tried to go out, but discovered that the door had locked. She frantically searched for the key in the cupboard. While she was doing this, her husband changed his bloodstained clothes and calmly asked her to go with him to her grandmother’s house.
She said: “He went out as if nothing had happened. I started crying and neighbours came, but it was too late.”
Fatima recalled that two weeks before the fateful day, her husband woke her up in the middle of the night and asked her to go to her grandmother’s house. He said that he would mind the three girls. Later, the girls cried, asking for their mother.
She said: “Our neighbours heard their cries and informed the police, who came and arrested him, but he was soon released on bail.”
She said the police brought her daughters to her at her grandmother’s house and their father started visiting them every day for about two weeks.

Fatima recollected: “He took me back to his apartment with our daughters the night of the incident. This was just a few hours before he committed his heinous crime.”
Fatima noted that her husband was a retired security guard, who is receiving a pension of SR4, 000, which was not enough to pay the house rent and meet other expenses.
“He did not pay the rent for three months and was indebted to our grocer by more than SR800,” she said, adding that her life with the husband was turbulent, but she continued with him for the sake of her daughters.
The man admitted to the police that he had killed his three daughters but didn’t say why. The police believe that the man is a drug addict.
Fatima is an orphan, who lost both her parents at an early age. She was brought up by her grandmother and an aunt.

Obasanjo had formed the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, which he said was meant to salvage the nation from its present state. He even asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest next year’s election as he had failed.
Soyinka, who spoke at the 80 Posthumous Birthday celebration of late legal luminary and activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi in Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, said Nigerians must be vigilant as democracy was in danger in the country.
The theme of the event is “Democracy for the Masses through Proper and Effective Governance.”
According to Soyinka, “all I have to say in connection with the theme of the event is vigilance. In this society and like others, there are people that whenever they smell anything decaying, they gather just as vulture. The theme of the event is most pertinent and there is no question whatsoever that democracy is in danger. It is not only the country’s democracy, the society is in danger.

“The question is, do we see it as an opportunity to do a rescue mission or do we see it as an opportunity to take advantage once again and continue our role, contribution in bringing the nation to its kneel? In other word, it is not new whatsoever that there is need for drastic action to rescue this country as a corporate entity and what I called the conglomeration of protocols that has kept us together which we place under the brick of democracy.
“I find it ironic that those who put themselves, the enemies of democracy, who have really taken the committed act, not just act, negligence; but actually inaugurated certain policies which contributed to our being at this point today are once again coming out and positioning themselves as saviours and messiahs.”
Soyinka, who was apparently referring to Obasanjo and his coalition added that the coalition was trying to present itself as the “sole possible rescue mission that this nation can even dream of, as nation of over 150 million. I found it very strange, because at the beginning of this movement, quote and unquote, rescue mission, there were two organisations that came out under different names. And there were names in there whom I considered worth following and encouraging others.
“The next thing I knew was that the movement was hijacked by the very people who laid the foundation for the collapse of democratic edifice. The next thing we discovered was they were forming coalitions. I was invited by one of the rescue missions to address them. So, I called them asking if they were the original people that I saw or the faction under which everyone is moving. I told them not to come near me. If you sign up to it, you will become one of those who are enemies of democracy in the country.
“They were those who inaugurated the so called, constitutional amendment programme, total charade, basically to assist them continue plan, which had been scuttled, known as tenure elongation, for which the entire national treasury was almost bankrupted.”
Soyinka said these same people had now come forward, forming coalitions to further confuse the people in a bid to find their way back to power.
“Suddenly, they are forming coalition all over the place; confusing people, especially the genuine leaders that we can trust. The answer to that is very simple. You need to look at their track record. Don’t allow yourself to be plunged into a zone of amnesia which one would conveniently forget unpleasant reality.
“We have had President in this country, some of whom inaugurated a never ending process which landed us under one of the most brutal dictator that this nation has ever known. We had others who supervised the sacking of democratic governance. And they called themselves God designated watchmen over the fortune of this nation.
“And suddenly, I see Nigerians flocking to them. They asked them to lead again. Even if they didn’t individually put themselves into power, they are already, smoothing the way, with their surrogate and stooges. All I am urging is that we should all be very vigilant. You can bash the ruling order of the moment. You can demand that you don’t want to wait for the next election.”
Also speaking at the event, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana charged Nigerians to be very very careful not to allow those who ruined the country to “claim that they are saviours of the people.”
Referring to Obasanjo, he said “This man ruled the country cumulatively for 11 and half years, including three years as a military head of state. He wanted to embark on third term before it was scuttled. He claimed to have solution to Nigeria’s problem.
“And that is why I am challenging him to name any of the country’s problems that he solved. He spent $16 billion to generate darkness for the country. This guy formed and took over the resources of the country under what he called blind trust. Nigeria is the only country where the sitting President and his vice established private varsities, refusing to fund the public institutions.”

“We left Chibok this morning in a convoy of seven buses for Yola to visit our daughters at the American University,” Yana Galang, from the Abducted Chibok girls Movement for Rescue, said.
Halfway between Chibok and Yola, the driver of one of the vehicles lost control after easing the brakes and hit a road maintenance truck, Galang said.
“One person died and 17 others were critically injured. Eight of them sustained fractures on hands and legs,” she added.
The kidnapping of 276 Chibok schoolgirls in April 2014 shocked the world and became a symbol of the abuses committed by Boko Haram.
Fifty-seven escaped in the immediate aftermath and returned to Chibok.
Over the following three years, 107 more were found, rescued or exchanged after negotiations between the government and their captors.
The majority of former captives are attending the American University of Nigeria in Yola, a prestigious private institution in northern Nigeria.
The families of a hundred hostages are still waiting for news.

Check out the World's Fattest Sisters’, Aged 6 And 8 Finally Undergo weight Surgery (Photos)

Naija hit play

The world’s fattest sisters from India have had gastric bands fitted aged six and eight – because they weighed a humongous 22 stone between them. Yogita Nandwana, eight, and her sister, Amisha, six, used to devour a heavy breakfast of chapatis and six bananas, while they scoffed eight more chapatis with half a kilo of rice and three bowls of curry for lunch – and again for dinner.
They also gorged on six packets of crisps, five packets of biscuits, a litre of milk and a litre of Coca-Cola every single day.
Yogita weighted a massive 59kg at her heaviest while her sister, who is two years younger, was 82kg.

But thanks to the kindness of a surgeon, the girls have had bariatric surgery to help keep their weight and health problems under control.
They have already lost a stone in weight and the breathing problems they suffered from beforehand have already improved.

Their Father,
, 36, from a village in Gujarat, western India, told of how he only earns Rs 3,000 (£35) a month as a labourer, but sometimes had to borrow money to indulge his girls’ constant hunger.
Yogita and Amita first hit international headlines in 2015 when the former weighed 33.6kg and the latter weighed 47kg when they were only aged five and three respectively.
That’s when Rameshbhai (The Father) quickly realised he was in fact hurting his children.
But with no money, he was nearly prepared to sell one of his kidneys to afford medical help for his daughters.

For the next three years the family were sent from one hospital and doctor to another across India, seeking help, but no result or long term weight loss managed to help the girls get healthy.
However, last month Asia’s top bariatric surgeon, Dr Mahendra Narwaria, from Asian Bariatrics Clinic, in Ahmedabad, western India, invited the family for a meeting.
Dr Narwaria promised to help, free of charge, and offered the sisters surgery to reduce their stomachs and long term consultations and guidance on permanent weight loss and a course of hormones and vitamins.
