Naijahitplay :12-yr-old girl beheaded in Delta State

There was outrage, yesterday, in Oghara, Delta State, following the murder of a minor, Egwono Adams, whose head was hacked off her body.

The deceased, aged 12, was said to have been accosted by her killers in the early hours of yesterday at Scott Road, close to Okwemeva Junction in Ogharaefe, where sources said they heard her screaming that early morning before she suddenly went quiet.

A source said residents of the area on hearing her scream, were scared to come out, only to wake up yesterday morning to see her head severed off her body.

The source added “The incident happened at about 5 am, few poles away from the Council Secretariat. Only God knows where she was coming from but people around here said they heard her shouting that they should open the door for her, that some persons were after her until she went quiet. When we woke, we saw this” (pointing to the corpse).

A source at the Sapele Police Area Command, who craved anonymity, confirmed the killing, adding that the police are on the trail of the suspects.

The source said the police have arrested a woman, who aided her husband that was a suspect, to escape.

“He is a suspect and we have information about him, that he is fond of threatening people with cutlass and even beheaded a goat yesterday, but we were closing on him when his wife led him through the back door to escape, so we held her and after some time, let her go”

Residents, angry over the continued killings in the community, with Egwono’s said to be the third in six weeks, have called on the Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Mustafa, and the Delta State government to tighten security in the area, pointing accusing fingers at community leaders and security chiefs for collecting money from these Yahoo boys whom they believe are behind the killing.

I started as bus conductor — Benue state Governor Ortom Reveals

Naijahitplay News: I started as bus conductor — Benue state Governor Ortom Reveals

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Thursday told his life story to encourage tricycle operators in the state.

The tricycle operators,  acting under the auspices of Benue Tricycles Association, had visited the governor to assure him of their support for his re-election.

Ortom, who received the tricycle operators in his office, said, “I started as a bus conductor, when I dropped out of school in 1972. Later, I became a driver and I am proud to say this anywhere. Since God made it possible for me to be what I am today, be rest assured that hope is not lost.

“The only thing that can hinder one’s destiny is when one lives a wayward life and takes to drunkenness. So, I encourage you not to indulge in any drug like Tramadol, it is deadly.

Ortom, who commended the tricycle operators, noted that the solidarity visit had offered him the opportunity to thank God and appreciate them for adding value to the economic development of the state.

He promised to initiate an empowerment scheme for them and urged them to form a cooperative society so as to enable them access loans and purchase tricycles of their own.

Speaking earlier, the state Chairman of the association, Bernard Orban, said, “As Agberos, we have come to endorse our fellow Agbero, we know the governor very well.”

Orban said they were fully committed to the re-election bid of Ortom because of his good works and love for the people, as well as his background as a transport worker.

He described Orton as “a sacrificial lamb who has volunteered to stake his life for the freedom of his people” and thanked God for using him to impact positively on the lives of the people of the state.

“You have demonstrated uncommon love for us and the entire people of the state. Wherever you go, you speak well of your people. At the Presidency, you never get intimidated to speak for the Benue people. When Fulani herdsmen were killing us in Benue, you brought solution by enactment of anti-open grazing law.

“ You started as an Agbero at the motor park and today, you are a governor leading people. I want to tell you that you are leading well and you still remember where you are coming from. God has elevated you among us. Therefore, we must support you to get re-elected and complete your eight years in office. Nobody can stop you because power comes from God”, Orban stated.

Just in: Arrest Aregbesola for forging police report, PDP tells IGP

peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to arrest the former governor of Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, for allegedly forging a police report he presented before an Election Petition Tribunal in 2007.

The Osun State branch of the PDP, in a statement by its chairman, Soji Adagunodo, on Wednesday, recalled that before taking over from his predecessor in November, 2010, Aregbesola and one other, were facing six counts bordering on forging and presenting a fake police report to an election petition tribunal in 2007.

According to Adagunodo, the matter that was then being heard by an Abuja High Court could not proceed when Aregbesola became governor in 2010, because of the immunity attached to his office.

“Now that Mr Aregbesola no longer enjoys constitutional immunity, the Inspector General of Police is duty bound to arrest him and present him before the court to prove his innocence in the charge,” Adagunodo said.

He recalled that the “forged” police report was the basis the Appellate Tribunal in Ibadan ordered a retrial of Aregbesola’s petition in 2009.

“It was curious that the former governor and his party abandoned the report when their petition went back for trial in the same year.

“While forgery itself is a weighty crime, forging a security document like a police report should be a matter of concern to the public and must not be swept under the carpet in any guise.”

Shocking: Suspected Fedral SARS operative shoots LASTMA official dead (Photos)

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, identified as Rotimi Adeyemo, was shot dead in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Alimosho Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.

We gathered that Adeyemo, while controlling traffic at the Iyana-Ipaja roundabout, stopped a motorist, who was alleged to be an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, for violating a traffic rule, but the motorist, who was apparently annoyed by the action of the LASTMA official, allegedly brought out a gun from his vehicle and shot the official dead.

An eyewitness, Uwem Okon, told us @Naijahitplay that the motorist, who drove a Toyota Highlander SUV, brought out a gun and shot the traffic official, who had asked him to stop for violating the rule.

Okon added that onlookers first retreated after the motorist shot the LASTMA official, but later regrouped as the motorist was trying to make a quick escape and seized him.

Okon stated, “There was a heavy traffic at the Iyana-Ipaja roundabout around 6:23pm. The LATSMA official was busy controlling vehicles in order to ease the traffic when he discovered that a motorist had violated a traffic rule. So, he stopped to caution the motorist, but the motorist suddenly brought out a gun and shot him on the head. The official died on the spot.

“People were surprised and scared of confronting the motorist, who had wanted to escape from the scene when he discovered that he had killed the official. But the bystanders and commercial bus drivers later summoned the courage and apprehended the motorist, who was then handed over to the police.”

Another eyewitness, who did not want his identity revealed, said the motorist had no reason to shoot the LASTMA official for performing his duty, adding that he took the law into his own hand by perpetrating such a crime.

He alleged that the motorist was later identified as an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The eyewitness said, “The LASTMA official had already told him to leave before the motorist decided to shoot him. He shot the man for performing his duty. This is wrong because he took the law into his own hands.

“The motorist was later discovered to be an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad. He was arrested and taken to the nearest police station at Iyana-Ipaja for interrogation.”

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said he had not been briefed about the incident.

But the Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, Mr Mahmud Hassan, confirmed that an official was killed by a motorist on duty in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos.

“I have just confirmed the sad news that a motorist killed our official while on duty at Iyana-Ipaja. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested. We have commenced investigation into the incident,” Hassan added.

Just in: Customs, Police, others mount 47 checkpoints along Seme – Lagos road

Following the failure of the Nigerian port system to accommodate the huge imports through the country’s waters, leading to diversion of cargoes to neighbouring countries, the land border route to Lagos end of the Nigerian market is now host to huge presence of security agencies’ checkpoints.

The proliferation of checkpoints along the Seme-Mile2 expressway, Lagos Badagry road in Lagos State, appears to have heightened with a gradual return of more security agencies that did not have checkpoints on the route before now.

Officers and men of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS and the Nigerian Army, are now dot the land border road stretch of Lagos – Badagry Expressway. The development is also undermining the initial position of the NCS leadership which had drastically cut its presence at the border routes.

There were over 30 checkpoints mounted by the Customs before the directive of the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) that all checkpoints be  dismantled except the three approved ones at Gbaji, Agbara and the last between Badagry and Mowo.

A former Customs Area Controller, CAC at Seme had ordered the dismantling of all the checkpoints in compliance with Ali’s directive but  Vanguard Maritime Report  learnt the checkpoints began to resurface shortly after he was transferred.

Most senior Customs officers who spoke with  Vanguard Maritime Report  said all checkpoints have been banned and only patrols are allowed but they wondered if the patrol teams are the ones now mounting permanent checkpoints.

Before Ali’s directive, Police mounted several checkpoints but Immigration had none at all until the Ebola outbreak.

The  Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC,  had no stationary checkpoint then but maintained a mobile stop-and-check while that of the Army only started surfacing shortly after the Customs directives and the Army officers at these checkpoints do not wear uniforms.

Vanguard Maritime Reports  recent trips from Agbara to Seme showed that from zero presence, NIS that is supposed to be stationed at the border only, now has about five checkpoints going to Seme and about seven on the return route.

The Police have about 10 on the way to Seme and about 15 on the return journey. The Army mounts its five checkpoints in the evenings on the return trip to Lagos at  Odofa bus stop, Luri bus stop, Oko-Afo bus stop and two more between  Badagry and Oko-Afo bus stop.

For Customs, there are no checkpoints from Agbara to Seme but on the return journey, there are three before the notorious Gbaji and another five before Agbara, making it eight, contrary to the three ordered by Ali.

The checkpoints by the Customs are manned by different units of the Service; including the Seme border Command, Comptroller General’s strike force, Federal Operations Unit, FOU and others.

Gbaji checkpoint has become so notorious that motorists spend between 30 minutes to one hour to do less than five kilometre distance.

Vanguard also gathered that both the police and immigration have Seme Commands and border patrols respectively at Seme.

All military and paramilitary agencies that were not present on the route before are now maintaining checkpoints on the route.

In addition, amongst agencies, there is the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, that collects N200 from each vehicle using a camp boy (civilian fronts) as collectors.

The FRSC has two shifts, morning and evening and drivers must pay the fare or get held for refusing to corporate as witnessed by  Vanguard Maritime Reporter.

There is also National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NAFDAC, Quarantine Service and some other uniformed agencies. The Nigeria Civil Defence Corp is now pos Corp is now positioning itself at the opposite side when going to Seme. They were not on the route before now.

In addition to the governmental agencies another new development is the presence of large numbers of community youths mounting a checkpoint just before Gbaji where they also extort money from traders and motorists.

When contacted, Controller of Seme Command of the NIS, Dominic Asogwa, told  Vanguard Maritime Report, that he has received complains about the issue of multiple checkpoints and a task force has been constituted to check it.

  • When reminded of the involvement of his officers he said, “Do you have the name of any officer? Get me the name of any officer.”

It was however discovered that the officers do not wear name tags.

Efforts to get the reaction of the National Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah, proved abortive as he neither picked our reporter’s calls nor respond to text message sent to him.

2019 Imo guber: I’ll support My son in-law (Nwosu) if he joins another party— Okorocha

IMO State governor Rochas Okorocha, yesterday said he would support his son-in-law Mr. Uche Nwosu, for the governorship race in Imo, should he (Nwosu) join another political party.

Okorocha disclosed this  at the government House in Owerri, in an interaction with newsmen as part of what seemed to be his final decision on the controversies rocking the APC both at the national and state level.

He also said the new political party must endorse President Mohammadu Buhari, re-election bid in 2019.

The governor gave as one of his reasons for taking such a stand, adding that all his loyalists were treated unfairly as well as denied the tickets of the party during the last APC, primaries.

Okorocha who is Chairman of APC governors forum, also bragged that his was still the Senatorial candidate of APC for Imo West and would not dump the party.

He accused Oshiomhole of destroying the party claiming President Buhari was not aware of what he (Okorocha) termed injustices in APC.

Okorocha did not mince words when he said he would not support the governorship candidate of APC, Hope Uzodimma.

His words: “This administration is gradually winding down. We have surpassed the promises we made to Imolites. Over 90 percent of the projects have been completed but the rest of the 10 percent may be completed before the end of the political season.

“We have built six universities, four polytechnics and two colleges of education and one college of health.

“Along Douglas road, we are constructing two gigantic hospitals. We have completed justice Oputa court. We have also built couple of new government ministries in different locations in the state, some of them are near 80 percent completion.

“The most important thing now is that we pay salaries in advance.”

We have paid that of October.”

“So, when you look at what we have done it supersedes everything done by all the civilian governors in the past in the state, when we come we met about 13 dilapidated hospital but now we are handing over 30 brand new hospitals in the state.

While baring his mind on the political developments in the APC, he said: “I know most of you are aware of what is happening in APC, from the removal of Osita Izunaso, as the National Organizing Secretary and the coming of Adams Oshiomole as the National chairman.

“However, our party that is known for uprightness and justice which reflects the image of Buhari, has been dainted by the action of Oshiomole.

“What we saw in Imo is an example, where people who did not contest for the party’s primaries now   fly the ticket of the party in the state. I have not left APC. I will support Buhari for presidency.

“What they don’t understand is that in Imo, we don’t play party politics we play politics of individual. What they don’t know is that people join APC, because of me. I have done all I can to ensure that APC, members stay back in APC.

“I will not be surprised to see most of them who contested the primaries join other Politicial parties to pursue their ambition. I cannot stop them to join any party of their choice.

“Buhari does not know what Oshiomole, is doing. I have pleaded to those who want to join other parties to please support President Mohammadu Buhari for presidency.

“The politics of Imo state has changed now. It is no longer an individual controlling the politics.

“As a father of Imo state, I still remain in the best position to select the best among Emeka Ihedioha, Hope Uzodimma, Ifeanyi Araraume and Uche Nwosu who is the best among all of them. Nwosu believes in Imo state, he has investment in the state.

“Nwosu is my candidate. Any party that these young men want to go they are free and I want say it again that Nwosu is my candidate.

“In selecting who will govern Imo state, you look at the past record, their history and what investment they have brought to Imo state. I want to announce to you that I am still running for the Senator and my party is still the APC.
“All these people are used as instrument to fight me for 2023. It will not affect my victory in 2019. Let me also say this, my boys never intended to betray me. They were given fake hope.
“Hope has played them 419 and today they never got the governor and deputy. They were promised that they would be given the guber ticket to Owerri zone. And today, where is the ticket for Owerri zone. They lost it. They have given it to another person.”
On why he did not join other Southeast governors to visit President Mohammadu Buhari, he briefly said: “If there is anything the Igbo want to tell Buhari, I have told him.”
He also spoke on his view on the Vice Presidential slot of the Peoples Democratic Party, given to the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi,   Okorocha said: “The sympathy of Nigeria, for the Igbo will drop ones Southeast gets the Vice president.
“I am not against Obi running the Vice president but the Igbo people need the President and not the Vice President slot.”

Just in: Fedral Government can’t destroy Biafra by force —- Bishop Enyioha

The Federal Government has been advised to adopt a more humane and practical approach to the growing agitation for a free Biafra, instead of using force.

The Founder and General Overseer of Friends of Jesus Global Mission, Owerri, Bishop Maglorious Enyioha, made the appeal weekend, while addressing a press conference in Owerri.

“The Python Dance, initiated and executed by the Nigerian Army, has become history. People died in the process but the agitation has remained. This calls for a more humane and practical approach than the use of force”, Bishop Enyioha said.

While saying that “the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is a young man that can hardly control his temper”, the Bishop also opined that “although Kanu may have spoken in some areas like a youth, government should however look critically into what he is saying”.

He expressed regret that Nigeria has never known peace since it’s creation, stressing that innocent blood is shed endlessly for, even flimsy excuses.

“We cannot allow this to continue ad infinitum. If we don’t want shedding of blood to continue, we should sit down and talk. Any land where innocent blood is carelessly shed, is cursed.

“Those who provide weapons to Nigeria are only asking us to kill our fellow Nigerians. They should instead, help us to conduct a referendum in Nigeria, instead of continuously supplying us arms and ammunition’s”, Enyioha said.

Answering a question, the Bishop said that Boko Haram is not a curse, pointing out that they are agitators and in a way, asking for referendum.

“Boko Haram is not a curse. Although their modus operandi is deadly, they are not a curse. They are also calling for referendum. It is no use fighting Boko Haram and herdsmen. We must stop deceiving ourselves and face realities”, Bishop Enyioha said.

Answering a question, the cleric said he does not subscribe to hate speeches, but “only talking about our reality and how Nigeria will achieve peace”.

Sad: Group declares 7–day mourning for Nigerian soldiers killed by Boko Haram

A group, 21st Century Youths of Nigeria for Restructuring has proclaimed seven-day mourning in nine states, including the six South-South states, for the gallant Nigerian soldiers allegedly massacred by Boko Haram.

Leader of the group, Izon Ebi, in a statement, yesterday, said, “In declaring seven-day mourning for the shameful and barbaric conspiracy that led to the slaughtering of 70 of our gallant soldiers by Boko Haram, we condemn this inefficiency of the present government.”

“We urge the National Assembly to work closely with the International Community, most especially the Human Rights Commission, to leave no stone unturned in their investigation and advise the Nigerian Army to be more professional in their conduct on national assignment,” the group added.

It demanded “immediate release of the identities of all slain soldiers, their states of origin and local governments.”

Furthermore, the youths called on the United States of America, United Kingdom, United Nations, European Union and African Union to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to concentrate more in consolidating democracy In Nigeria and Africa in particular, and eschew influencing and dragging the army and other security agencies into partisan politics like in the Niger Delta.

“The slaughtering of 70 gallant Nigerian soldiers should be a wakeup call to all Nigerians, particularly, President Buhari- led administration and the international community to rise up and save our democracy from total collapse,” it added.

Breaking: Boko Haram Kidnaps Another Set Of Girls In Southeastern Niger

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped 15 girls overnight in a village near Toumour, southeastern Niger, the local mayor said on Saturday.

Boko Haram terrorists:kidnap 15 girls in neighbouring Niger
Boukar Mani Orthe, the mayor of the town in Niger’s Diffa region near the border with Nigeria, said about 50 unidentified armed men seized the girls in a village about nine kilometres from the town centre.

On Thursday suspected Boko Haram fighters killed eight people working at French drilling company Foraco’s water well site in Toumour.

Boko Haram has been waging an insurrection since 2009 aimed at establishing an Islamic state in northeast Nigeria. It has launched repeated attacks into neighbouring Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

The violence has killed thousands of civilians and forced millions to flee their homes in the large Lake Chad basin region.

Kidnapping of schoolgirls has been a Boko Haram horror mark, since its fighters in 2014 kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, in Nigeria.

It also staged this year, another major kidnap of schoolgirls in Dapchi, Yobe state.

In Mali, French forces said they “put out of action” some 30 Islamist militants, possibly including veteran Malian jihadist leader Amadou Koufa, during a raid in the central Mali region of Mopti.

The French army, which has about 4,500 troops in West Africa battling Islamist militants, did not specify whether the jihadists had all been killed or taken prisoner. The operation took place with air support on Thursday night, it said.

“At this stage of the evaluation of the operation, it appears that about 30 terrorists were put out of action,” the army said in its statement on Friday, adding that Koufa and other prominent militants were probably among them.

Koufa, a radical preacher, inspired the Massina Liberation Front (MLF), a group blamed for a wave of attacks that has shifted Mali’s six-year-old Islamist insurgency from the remote desert north ever closer to its populous south.

Sad: Pathetic state of Katsina where school pupils sit on bare floor (photos)

Government Day Secondary School, Jibiya, Katsina State is blighted by an air of neglect that is visible from different views of the public school. So irrespective of the angle an onlooker stands, the state of disrepair is evident.

Founded in 1983, a tour of the school located in Dan Marke area, off Chama Park Road, Jibiya by Saturday PUNCH, revealed the lofty dreams of its founders for the school and the community. Despite the glaring rot occasioned by neglect, the blocks of classrooms still have telltale signs of the kind of facilities provided in the school when it was established.

For instance, the school has a staff quarters to encourage the teaching staff have easy access to the school. Though dilapidated with walls thick with grime accumulated over the years, the facility has an examination hall, laboratory, library, computer room, and sports facilities, including a football field.

Some trees dot the landscape of the school, providing shade and offering some semblance of beauty and normality, a stark contrast to the unsightly infrastructure of the school.

Residents of the state now only speak longingly about a time when the Government Day Secondary School was a first choice for many parents and prospective pupils in the area, who wanted quality secondary school education. Considering the state of the school, such dreams are a far cry from the reality that its pupils experience.

The school’s large expanse of land, including the football field, has been converted to unconventional routes by numerous motorists and okada riders (commercial motorcyclists), with some motorists using the field as a makeshift training school where learners can perfect their driving skills. And with the lack of perimeter fences, miscreants also find it easy to wander through the school.

It was however learnt that the school was divided into junior and secondary schools in 2006, with both still occupying the same facility. Further investigation showed that pupils’ population for the schools was close to 12,000, and the overcrowded classrooms as witnessed by our correspondent seemed to confirm that.

Nothing in the school showed that it benefited from the state government’s ‘Restoration Agenda,’ which has education sector as one of its priorities.

Since the classrooms do not have desks and chairs, pupils are forced to sit on bare floor, which makes writing a difficult task for them.

It was also learnt that apart from an uncompleted block of two classrooms built by an unnamed politician as part of his constituency projects, no structure had been added to the school since its establishment.

This has invariably led to overcrowding in classrooms because of the increasing population of pupils. As a result, structures that should serve as school laboratory and library have been converted to classrooms.

Therefore, some classes are merged together as a temporary solution to the problem of inadequate number of classrooms.

Quite sadly too, many of the classrooms have dilapidated due to the activities of vandals who reportedly saunter into the school complex at will, especially at night, to remove doors, windows and other items since the school complex is not fenced.

So, many classrooms are left with fallen roofs or without ceilings, doors and windows. It was further learnt that the school examination hall is now being used for social events rather than for its original purpose because of its current state.

A Senior Secondary School 2 science pupil, Awwal Jamilu, lamented the situation, adding that his parents had hired a private tutor to teach him “after school hours because of the poor learning condition in the school.”

Similarly, Mallam Nasiru Muntari, a parent of one of the pupils of the school, was still nostalgic about the good old days the school once enjoyed.

Pleading with the state government in a telephone interview with our correspondent visited the ministry.

It was however learnt that Governor Aminu Masari’s Special Adviser on Restoration, Sabo Musa, had recently led a delegation to the school and promised that it would be one of the schools to be rehabilitated next by the government.
