Just in: Osun state in safe hands with Oyetola - APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun says the state has reason to hope  and trust that the future of the state is safe under the leadership of Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola.

The party made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesman in the state, Mr Kunle Oyatomi.

” In less than a year of being mandated by the people of the state to succeed ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola , the present governor had done tremendously well.

” The new governor has surefooted continuity on the progressive lane of development that distinguished Osun from other states,” he said.

According to him, the party is optimistic that the administration will continue to secure international assistance as well as attract investment to the state.

Oyatomi added that the party had referenced the consolidation of healthcare delivery which the Oyetola -led government had carried out within six months that had brought the services to all electoral wards in the state.(NAN)

Dakolo, mother of three had on Friday made a shocking revelation in a detailed interview with Chude Jideonwo, a lawyer and journalist on YNaija channel of how the Abuja-based cleric raped her as a teenager.

The viral video report has set social media and other online platforms on fire, evoking shock, backlash and criticism from Nigerians, especially the Christian community.

In 2013, the clergy popularly called “Gucci Pastor”, because of his flamboyant fashion style, was also entangled in an allegation of infidelity with one Ese Walter, a former member of the church.

Just in - We are not ready for Fayose’s trial yet, EFCC counsel tells court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) surprised the court today, as its counsel, Mr. S. A. Obafemi, said they were yet to receive briefings as to the ways to go since the trial of immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, was transferred from Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, to Justice Chukwujekwu Joseph Aneke of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The EFCC counsel, who opposed the rearraignment of Fayose by reading the charges preferred against him, said; “Since the matter was transferred, we are yet to hear from the EFCC on the way forward. We apologize to the court. That is the predicament we found ourselves.

” At this point, we ourselves, we are handicapped as to way forward in this matter. We urge the court to give us another date for the defendants to be arraign properly.”

While giving further reasons the matter should be adjourned, the EFCC counsel said “information we gathered is to the effect that the 1st defendant is still being investigated for further matters. The leading counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) has not been directed on the ways to go, that’s why he is not in court today.”

Justice Aneke however responded; “So I will just be here, waiting for EFCC to give directive when the matter is already before me? I don’t take directive from EFCC.”

In his response, Counsel to Fayose, Mr Ola Olanipekun (SAN), said “We are taken aback that the prosecution is now saying it is not ready and in the interest of justice, these defendants cannot be on trial perpetually.

Olanipekun said the EFCC, which he described as nominal complainant in the matter, started investigating this case before the expiration of Fayose’s tenure as governor.

“Their activities were so disturbing of the official functions of the defendant that he had to write the EFCC that he will make himself available the very day he leaves office, and he so did,” he pointed out.

He added that the EFCC had not given any cogent reason why the trial should not go on.

Counsel to the second defendant, Olalekan Ojo (SAN) wondered why defendants who have been charged to court will have their arraignment postponed because other cases are being investigated.

“This is absurd. These alleged new cases were being investigated before they was arraigned before Hon. Justice Olatoregun. If it was competent for the defendants to be arraigned then, what stops it now?

The judge however adjourned the matter till July 2, 2019, citing the interest of justice, considering the non presence of EFCC lead counsel, Rotimi Jacobs.

Earlier, the defense counsel had withdrawn the application objecting the transfer of the case to the new court by the Chief Judge of Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdul-Kafarati, owing to a petition against the trial judge, Justice Olatoregun by the EFCC.

Withdrawing the application, Olapenikun said; “we have no preference whatsoever for any particular judge before whom this case should be tried.

“Our concern is purely for the rule of law and this should not be cited as authority that the Chief Judge can transfer any criminal matter that is already being tried.”

In his own submission; Olalekan Ojo, said “the administrative decision of the Chief Judge, with all due respect, is an example per excellence
of a rape on the rule of law.

“It is a very sad precedent in the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria.

“The Chief Judge is acquainted with the law and what he has done is illegality and unconstitutionality. The defendants have been foisted with a situation of total helplessness.

“Even if this application is decided in our favour, it will not be of any meaningful benefit to the defendants. The EFCC has gotten from the back door, what it couldn’t have gotten thru the due process of law.”

He therefore supported the withdrawal of the application and urged that the trial should commence before Justice Aneke.

Fayose was arraigned by the EFCC on October 22, 2018, alongside a company, Spotless Investment Ltd, on an 11-count charge.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50 million, with one surety in like sum.

EFCC had opened the case for prosecution on November 19, 2018 and had called 13 out of the 15 witnesses it listed before the case was transferred to a new judge for the trial to begin afresh.

Sports Update - Super Eagles call off their strike in Egypt over unpaid allowances
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have suspended their training strike over unpaid bonuses at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt following last-minute intervention by top football officials.
Super Eagles call off their strike
The team finally agreed to train in Alexandria, 30 minutes after schedule, after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) promised to pay a win bonus from their 1-0 victory over Burundi on Saturday, by the end of the week.
NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire said “the matter has been resolved”, conceding that funds for the tournament had arrived late.
“The NFF received part of the money meant for the tournament today and is in the process of converting it to dollars to pay the players and officials. The only money they’re owed is the win-bonus for the Burundi match” he said.
The bonuses were expected to be paid by the NFF after Saturday’s game ended. Officials close to the team, who spoke under anonymity, told AFP that following reassurances from the NFF “the team captain spoke to the players, asking them to show some understanding after which the team agreed to train”.
The players had earlier boycotted the official pre-match conference. Other NFF officials disclosed that the players have been paid a daily training allowance of $200-a-player from June 2 to June 30.

Just in - Don’t run Nigeria into recession again, PDP tells Buhari

The  Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently constitute his cabinet, warning that a delay may further affect the country’s economy.

The PDP  also called on the President not to “run the country into recession again with his know-it-all attitude”.

The National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, who spoke with our correspondent on Monday, said it was disheartening that the President had yet to name his ministers more than three months after winning the presidential election.

Secondus alleged that the delay by the President in naming his ministers in 2015  contributed to plunging the country into recession.

He said, “We in the opposition believe vehemently that we won the presidential election. This is the reason we are contesting the outcome of the election at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

“However, having being declared the winner (of the February 23 polls), and also sworn in for a second term, the President ought to have realised his many mistakes of the past.

“By now the list of his ministers ought to have been submitted to the Senate for consideration. Nigerians should tell the President that he should not run the country into recession again.

“He did so when he assumed office in 2015. That time, he was behaving like a sole administrator, carrying on as if he was a military head of state.

“Economists and members of the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria recently warned that the economy is still very fragile.  The President should not crash it.

“Nigeria is blessed with talented individuals everywhere in the world. Recall how President Olusegun Obasanjo was able to bring different people together in his government. That action was what led to the debt forgiveness the nation got from the Paris Club.

“Obasanjo was also able to stabilise the economy. President Buhari should do the same by waking up. The country cannot  continue to drift under his leadership.”

The PDP chief also called on those he termed “eminent leaders of thought,” to speak with Buhari before “the country capsizes under the leadership of President Buhari”.

OH My God!! 72 year old prophet arrested for impregnating, killing and burying a Babcock student

One Prophet Jacob Ade Farinmade, the head of Celestial Church of Christ, Gospec Mission, Mosan, Ipaja, Lagos, has been arrested for allegedly killing a female undergraduate he impregnated.
The 72-year-old suspect allegedly secretly buried Bunmi after she died during childbirth and he didn’t inform her parents. The deceased was said to have been taken by her father to live with her mother, following her rustication in 200 level at Babcock University in 2014.
Bunmi’s mother, Derayo Omisipi, thereafter took her to Farinmade for spiritual deliverance and protection.
According to The Nation, the cleric, who already had more than 10 wives, took advantage of Bunmi’s stay in his church for the purported deliverance, to lure her to bed and impregnated her.
It was learnt that the cleric did not allow the deceased to attend any antenatal clinic throughout the duration of her pregnancy. The cleric onlybroke the news of the girl’s death to her mother after he had buried her in a shallow grave near his church premises.
The father of the deceased became curious after her mother could not offer satisfactory explanation about her whereabouts. He later reported the matter to the police and the cleric was arrested.
